One down -- one to go -- in revenge games.
I'm bringing undefeated friend who saw Gauchos win regular-season title in year after NCAA appearance (2003?), saw Gauchos beat UC Davis a couple of weekends ago and saw Nunnally give CSUN this year's Big West title (by breaking Long Beach's heart!). |

Anyone know if there's anywhere to follow the game online? I don't have ESPNU because Comcast sucks. And because it's on ESPNU BigWestTV isn't
carrying it. I'm even checking some of the illicit sites like JustinTV and such. Oh well. Go Gauchos!

Have to say that this is pretty damn embarrassing right now. The Gauchos keep trying to make a pass to their teammate when he is three feet away or they keep
trying chest passes through traffic. Devine is taking way too long to make a decision and has turned the ball over at least 4 times. He looks like a freshman
out there. Come on dude, you've been at UCSB for 6 YEARS!!!! Get fired up, push that floppy hair out of your face and play with some ferocity!
So far this isn't looking good. It would be nice if we decided to run a zone offense. So far it consists of passes back and forth between the two guards or a guard dribbling to the corner. The problem we're having is when we pass it to the FT line. That's where the TO's are coming from.

Wow. For a team playing like crap, this is pretty amazing that we've kept it close. If we can cut down on the TO's, we might have a chance.
Can't find out who is responsible for each of the TO's, but we have 14 at the half.

CSUN has also played erratically and sloppy at times. Bringing in a bigger line-up seems to have helped. And seriously, Nunnally needs to play as much as
possible. Still anyone's game to win -- and lose.
Here's a good live box score, too, if this helps anyone: http://www.cbssports.com/...CAAB_20090313_UCSB@CSNTH |

The TO sloppiness continues for both teams.
Who is the woman now announcing for KCSB? Because... she makes me want to turn it off. (I'm sure she's a wonderful person, mind.) |

I guess the Gauchos don't work on bounce passes very much because they keep making the bone-headed decision of trying to give a chest pass through traffic.
On a side note, Bob just wasted a time out by not waiting for the under 8 timeout |

CSUN Wins - UCSB loses | #12 | ||

What a horribly played game by UCSB. They turned the ball over with horrible passes. They looked like they'd never seen a zone defense before and they
refused to box out. They got dominated on the boards and were lucky that CSUN turned the ball over at the same rate, otherwise they would have received a
serious ass whipping.
In my opinion, Devine, PhD, was a liability and should not have received the minutes he got. He was dominated by all of CSUN. I'm pretty sure that he was knocked down at least three times by a CSUN player. The thing that really bugs me is his lack of passion (on a side note: James Powell could probably teach him about being passionate) and fire. I realize that not every player is going to be yelling and screaming, but Devine continuously had the deer in the headlights look tonight. After the ball got thrown off his back (great play by Mels), he just picks the ball up ho hum like it's no big deal. On average, he must have held the ball at least 4 seconds before either turning it over, getting a bad shot or passing it. When he is in the post, he has no moves except a bullrush move that doesn't work on bigger, stronger players. I realize I'm venting, but I'm really disappointed in a sixth year senior to go out like that. Also, Bob kept up his end of the bargain by staying true to form. He has a .500 record in his first game in the Big West Tourney. If he wins that first game, he hasn't won the second game, with the exception of the NCAA season. Now that is consistency. At least we know what to expect and it's probably not going to be an NCAA berth anytime soon. Maybe we can get a bid in that CBIT or whatever the hell that third tier tournament is.

Good game tonight, SB. Well, actually, it was a mess, but you guys played hard all night, and made our guys work for it. Best of luck next year. I gotta
feeling you guys will do just fine in 2010.

Well, we had fewer turnovers in the 2nd half but we struggled to score and get defensive rebounds. We also had a few big defensive breakdowns and no answer for
Townsend inside. IMO, it was a mistake to have Phippen in there for the rebound there at the end, but I know we wanted him for the 3 if we got the rebound.
But, I'm not really in the mood for placing blame at the moment. Northridge played better and deserved to win.

Oh well, in the game that neither team deserved to or wanted to win, someone had to. Congrats to the Matadors. I really couldn't see UCSB giving anyone
trouble in the NCAA tourney this year anyway. (Or the NIT.) On a positive note, I will say at least that I appreciated their comeback this season when it
looked like a disaster they came back with more fire and really showed more heart than I thought they had. Problem was they didn't always show brains or
hands.
I actually have a lot more confidence in their team next year. With the freshman gaining experience, a couple of good players coming in next year. Powell and Justin Joyner coming back, I can't imagine they won't compete in this conference. I still have my doubts about BWilliams though. Anyway, thanks everyone for being good company. Will check back in here during the off season. Don't forget to root for the Lady Gauchos tomorrow. |
