at Southern Utah. They split a pair of games with LBSU, winning at home and losing at the Pyramid. They got crushed at USU and at home by BYU. Their other
wins are vs. Montana Tech and Prarie View.

EC, I don't quite understand why you're bashing the Stache. Pajevic wasn't exactly Vlade Divac, but he had some good moments last year on a team
that won 23 games -- more than any other Gaucho team in history -- and tied for the league's regular-season championship. Sure, he made some mistakes -- so
did everybody else at one time or another. Plus he was a good guy who loved the Locos. We don't win the title last year without him, period -- we
wouldn't have had enough depth up front. I usually agree with your posts, but not this one. Love live the Stache!

Ever talk to the players? You trade Chris Moore for Nedim, and the chemistry would've gone to sh--. They wanted Moore OUT because he didn't give a
sh--, and was more interested in partying than helping the team. I heard this from more than just one of the guys. On the other hand, they LOVED Nedim. Go ask
Chris Devine what he thinks about this if you don't believe me -- he wishes Nedim were back on the team this year. Look, I think Serna and Byrd are better
players, too. But this team held together down the stretch last year because Nedim was a great teammate and did a lot of the dirty work -- he set GREAT screens
and played good interior defense. He did make too many stupid passes, but he wasn't asked to score (he averaged 5.3 points and shot 46.2 percent) because
we had Alex and Chris and James. Sometimes we talk up incoming players as though they're the second coming of Michael Jordan, and we get disappointed when
they don't live up to the hype. But Nedim was absolutely valuable to our team last year -- and to a man, all his coaches and teammates would agree to that.

For the record, I was being facetious about Moore.
We had a good year last year, but the reason the season ended disapointingly was that we didn't have anyone who wouldn't be pushed around inside by
UC Irvine....the same way we were in 2007. I'm encouraged much more by the toughness of the new players this year.

I agree with EC here. I like the stache-man, but Bob bricked. Nedim was billed as a very physical, tough down low, all-big west post player. That was the
justification for two years of scholly for one year of play. In that regard, he was a total bust and we had to count on a breakout performance by an
under-sized Elliot to do as well as we did. To be honest, how much different would our team have performed if we had Garlepp last year instead of Stache? My
guess, not much. Neither was a strong inside presence, both were 'soft' players. *Not implying that was the trade, just comparing potential role
players.
Byrd is exactly what we all thought we'd be getting in Nedim last year. Byrd's play has superb, very physical and a huge effect on the floor. **Stache was still an upgrade over my one year of remaining eligibility. |

Nearly everyone likes me too and my occasional retro 70's stache, I'm great for team chemistry as well. But I guarantee you EC would not like my
play either.
Nacho' I think Stache suffered from expectations, perhaps unreasonably created, and that is the point here. We all liked him, most of us perhaps expected more. No knock on Nedim. But, you talk about expectations, Orlando Johnson is carrying some high ones for the Gaucho faithful. Yeah, its not fair to Orlando but, in this day and age of instantaneous and extensive information, it can't be helped. I can remember when Shaw and Vaughns came in and we waited a year for them to play. What a surprise that was for us, along with the freshman DeHart, who was very savvy right away. Them's the good old days of less information and lower expectations :-).

I lean towards AAG on this. Nedim only had a year to prove himself on the court at SB; many simply had higher expectations; we were sold higher expectations
to some degree. Now look at Jesse Byrd. We all had lower expectations on him and he's becoming many fans favorite current Gaucho.
Bottom line.... the more time that lapses between NCAA appearances for us, the harder the falls at failure and anger/dissappointment at players. Some fair, some not. We all have to keep expectations in check.... Chris Brew or OJ or Lucas probably won't carry us on their back to big dance. If we don't make it to the NCAA tournament over the next four years, we might go Steve Bartman on everyone! I'm in Ogden right now. It's fricking freezing here and the beer is so watered down you have to piss too often to get a buzz. There isn't a Harry's or Joe's Cafe here. They measure everything, everything! Last edit... I agree that Stache was way overhyped by Williams. He's overhyped a lot of guys -- some who were much bigger busts. I just thought the comment that we owed
Weber State some payback for dumping Nedim on us was uncalled for. The guy filled a role and made us a better team in several ways last year. Was he worth two
years of scholarship for one year of play? Probably not, but we would've had a pretty thin front line without him last year. Comparing him to Elliott, who
was probably our most underrated player last year, and Byrd, who is clearly our best player this year, is unfair to Nedim. I'm just not sure why you guys
are now taking such cheap shots at the Stache. If he checks out this site -- and I think he does -- I sure don't think he deserves to read this kind of
trash talk. Again, go ahead and ask his teammates what they think of him and where they think they would've finished last year without him. Maybe they know
a little more about what makes a good basketball team than you do.

Well maybe that's the problem, EC -- especially with a lot of these lame-ass posts. It's one thing to say he was overhyped, but you basically
"joked" that Nedim was bad for the program. You think that kind of "joke" was funny to him or his friends or his teammates? Nedim is a real
human being who didn't deserve that. You want to bag on him on the internet? Unless he was a dog, which he clearly wasn't, that's just plain
chicken shit. If you want any real cred, use your real name and don't hide behind an alias when you dish out that kind of disrepecting crap --- or better
yet, say it to the Stache himself.

Id like to point out that I said on this very board to expect 6 ppg and 4rbg from Nedim. He ended up at 5.3 and 3.8. Next time anyone needs to know what to
expect out of a player please feel free to ask me. I take paypal.

I'm not ripping our own players. The day I do, I will have the sack to put my name to it. You want to rip them, fine. I just didn't see the point of
bagging on a good guy who played hard and never expected or tried to be a star. His numbers were about what should be expected for a guy who didn't start
most the season and was usually the fourth scoring option (behind Alex, James and either Chris or Ivan) when he was in there. Rip Williams for giving him a
two-year scholarship? I got no problem with that. I do have a problem with ripping Nedim about it. Maybe it's just the new mentality of being a sports jock
jerk - it makes people feel big when they can belittle an athlete, especially those on their own team. I know UCSB's Jim Rome got that ball rolling more
than a decade ago. But I don't even hear Rome ragging his beloved Gauchos very much.
