I don't think the Gauchos hit a basket in the last 7:18...they make just enough mistakes to survive. 15-2 run by Utah Valley cut it 3 with about 30 seconds left.

Greg got maybe his first non dunk points shortly after coming in on a nice turn around shot.

-Looks like Devine is not playing, no brainer there. All the freshman and even Sam the muffin man are gonna get a chance to get some good minutes under their belt.

-Byrd is exactly what we all hoped Pajevic was gonna be last year. This team really has balanced inside-out options.

-Sam the muffin man for a smooth 3. UVU is not playing defense, our poor passing and ball handling is not being taken advantage of, yet. UVU announcers called Roemer quick!!

-Will Brew has 10 so far in the first half with two nice threes and a wierd running one handed jump shot. Our inside presence and slashing guards are giving us good looks from 3, we're 6/6 so far, I think.

-We limited their main guy Toolson pretty well, Bob is generally good at coming up with a gameplan to deal with one trick pony teams.

2nd half------

-Serna getting some points early, he'll be able to get some against BW competition for sure.

-we are bigger, stronger and FASTER than UVU, a trifecta I'm not used to having in our favor, confusing

-Byrd is dominating the game down low, and his free throws have been pretty solid.

-With Devine out, Powell and Nunnaly mostly non-factors, we are dominating. UVU coach has applied no perimeter defensive pressure, or full court pressure, clearly didn't get the USF tape. Our turnovers are not an issue thus far

-apparently our guys watched the USF tape! buckle up.

-we survived. We had this game put away with 5-6 minutes left, but let them come almost all the way back. Bob Williams checked out before the under 4 min timeout and left all of our worst FT shooters in there, didn't call any timeouts to calm his frazzled troops down. We left the ball in Byrd, Phippen and Posley's hands down the stretch to get fouled and shoot FTs. No plan to get Powell the ball, or Roemer, or Weiner or even put Serna in who is a better FT shooter than the other two. I'll be interested to see his postgame quotes.

-If this team progresses, we have a lot of potential weapons that could serve us well all season. Or, we could end up w/ too many individuals and no cohesion. It'll take good coaching to make it happen.

We made it interesting in the last 5 minutes or so and let them back in the game after being up by 16 and dominating the paint even without CD.

Our FT shooting down the stretch was just awful. I think we were 3-10 in the last 3 minutes or so. A road win is good, but we should have just put them away. Toolson was held in check well by our D but he did have some good open looks; it wasn't his night thankfully.

We controlled the game until we had to start hitting fts. If we hit our free throws just respectably poorly instead of horrifically poorly, we win going away. I don't think Powell took any fts and with Devine out, all the guys we sent to the line were poor ft shooters. In the post game interview, Bob said we'll have to spend time on that. In the past 2 years, we were so good, not that much time was spent on fts during practice.

Powell only had 9pts. With Devine being out and the low scoring from Powell, we have to be pleased with the performance and the young players stepping up. Byrd had arguably been our best player so far this year. I love the way he's playing. Man I wish we had him last year!

I'm kind of glad we finished poorly but won. It should keep the team focused on improving.

Jesse Byrd is really exceeding my expectations. I think this is the best frontcourt we've had in a long time.

We only had 4 turnovers, but they picked up a lot in the 2nd half. In our defense, a lot of them were offensive fouls, both with the ball and away from the ball. The refs were calling a lot of those both ways in the 2nd half.

Phippen hit 2 nice shots, but we seemed to give up a lot of offensive boards when he was in.

Brew's growth as a player is going to be an enormous factor in how far we go this year. It will be a big factor for next year's team too, but JJ's return will help us a lot next year. Our backcourt really needs him to step it up this year for us to have any chance come March.

Posley is scoring a lot more this year which is nice, but I think we need both Brew and Nunnally to be big contributors come March to do anything.

Serna had his best offensive game but fouled out.

Somogyi showed his skills again by hitting a jumper and throwing down a dunk. In the pregame interview, Bob said their plan is to play Greg in situations where he can succeed. Ultimately, they want to continue to up his minutes as they think he's got the tools to be a big time player in the future.

In the postgame, Bob said we're not where we should be yet, but he expects the team to grow incredibly in the next two months.

Ok, now that is two times we have given up huge leads at the end of the game. Last night's in a way was actually worse because our opponent was considerably less athletic than us and we should have learned against USF. Glad we got the win of course but not happy the team is making a habit of choking away big leads.

Agreed with EC that Byrd has been fantastic. I'd still call Nunnaly's amazing game against UNC the highlight but Byrd has been terrific, very consistent.

This collapse wasn't quite as disturbing as USF. I don't think we'll shoot well under 50% fts throughout the season. Our problems bring the ball up the floor and taking care of the ball are more serious.

Neither collapse particular fun to watch because you look at the first 35 minutes of those games we grade out pretty well. Obviously getting the win is most important. We've been a solid FT shooting team the past couple years so I guess I've taken that for granted a bit too.

After Finals, CW has lots of time to make things right. At least more practice time before league starts at Long Beach Jan 2nd.

Lots of things I like about this team and our future. Going 11-5 in BW could be attainable IMHO but I could also see us go South quickly.

Anyone notice the Sunday day game in Riverside following Friday Night in Long Beach. It will make it easier to see the game live but seems a little tight. If we lose Friday we need that win.
